Description:
Bacterial Vaginosis is an inflammatory condition that is caused by bacterial growth in the female reproductive organ.
Diagnostic tests are run to detect a series of bacteria pathogens responsible for Bacterial Vaginosis and Vaginitis.
Identifying Pathogen Detection
- Trichomonas vaginalis
- Escherichia coli
- Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS)
- MRSA Reflex
- Bacteroides fragilis
- Mycoplasma hominis
- Mobiluncus curtisii
- Mobiluncus mulieris
- Ureaplasma urealyticum
- Prevotella bivia
- Enterococcus faecalis
- Staphylococcus aureus
Symptoms:
Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis include
- Foul odor
- Vaginal itching along with gray, white, or green vaginal discharge
- Burning sensation during urination
Causes and Risk Factors:
Bacterial vaginosis occurs as a result of bacterial overgrowth and colonization within the vagina. Natural vaginal bacteria overgrows within the vagina, causing an abnormal ratio of bacterial anaerobes to lactobacilli.
There are many causes of bacterial vaginosis. Risk factors include multiple and or new sexual partners, douching that may cause unnatural bacterial growth and a natural lack of lactobacilli.
Treatments and Prevention:
Preventing Bacterial vaginosis is important to decrease your risk of developing bacterial vaginosis. In order to minimize your risk, stay clear of vaginal irritants such as deodorant soaps and scented feminine products, avoid douching to maintain a bacteria, avoid sexually transmitted infections with contraception and limiting your number of sexual partners.
Most common treatments for bacterial vaginosis include prescription creams and gels along with antibiotic medication (Metronidazole, Clindamycin, Tinidazole).

- Abdominal pain, specifically in the left
- quadrant
- Bloody stool
- Colitis and enteritis
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Viral enteritis and noninfectious gastroenteritis
Causes and Risk Factors:
- Gastrointestinal infections can be very easily contracted and can lead to flu like symptoms including: nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort or pain, bloody stool, and fever.
- While anyone can contract a gastrointestinal infection, some are at higher risk than others, including infants and children, elderly individuals, exposure to many people such as travelers and children in school, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Treatments and Prevention:
- Gastrointestinal infections can vary greatly. Some common treatments that decrease the symptoms of infection include avoiding solid foods, dairy products, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and sugary or fatty foods.
- Additionally it is important to drink plenty of fluids and staying hydrated. It is essential to slowly ease back into eating normally by primarily eating simple foods.
- Avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and diclofenac due to their ability to irritate the stomach.
- Medications such as Paracetamol can be taken to reduce symptoms of fever and abdominal pain.
Description:
- Human papillomavirus infections, or HPV, is a common viral infection among sexually active individuals. HPV viral infections are sexually transmitted infections that affect the skin and can cause warts in the infected regions.
- High Risk HPV Pathogen Detection
- HPV 16
- HPV 18
- Other High Risk HPV
Symptoms:
- Symptoms for HPV include genital warts, common warts, plantar warts, or flat warts
- While there are hundreds of different types of HPV, UltimateDX can screen for any type of HPV related infections. It is important to note that HPV can lead to certain cancers (cervical, anal, penile, oropharyngeal) if not tested and treated for promptly.
Causes and Risk Factors:
- HPV is caused by bacterial infection either through skin to skin contact or through an open wound that is in contact with an infected individual.
- HPV infections of the genitals are contracted through sexual activity including intercourse of all kinds and skin to skin contact in the genital region. HPV infections that result in oral and respiratory complications are contracted through oral sex.
Treatments and Prevention:
- The FDA has approved vaccinations for HPV infections. Gardasil 9 is an approved HPV vaccination that can be administered to boys and girls from as early as 11 to 12 years of age.
- Genital warts can be prevented through the use of condoms, reducing your sexual partners, and maintaining genital hygiene.

- Severe symptoms that should seek immediate care include severe difficulty breathing, fever over 103 degrees Fahrenheit, dizziness, or loss of consciousness.
Causes and Risk Factors:
- While Respiratory infections are avoidable, some people are more at risk than others including children who are in contact with other children, individuals with heart disease and/or pulmonary diseases, smokers, and those with weakened immune systems such as the elderly.
- Respiratory infections are caused by acute pharyngitis, ear infections, the common cold which lead to upper respiratory tract infections, and bronchitis, pneumonia, and bronchiolitis, which result in lower respiratory infections.
Treatments and Prevention:
- Treatments for upper respiratory infections normally come in the form of medications prescribed by physicians.
- There are many ways to prevent individuals from contracting an upper respiratory infection, including MMR vaccinations and pertussis vaccinations. Additionally, influenza vaccinations are available to reduce the risks of developing respiratory infections.

Causes and Risk Factors:
- STI’s are a result of direct sexual contact and are caused by bacterial, viral, or fungal sources. Those who are at high risk of contracting an STI are those who have multiple sexual partners and those who do not use protection in the form of condoms or other contraceptive tools.
Treatments and Prevention:
- Treatment and prevention of STIs include antibiotic medications provided by your clinician, and maintaining safe sexual practices. It is essential to use condoms when having sexual intercourse with your partner, especially if they are a new partner.

Causes and Risk Factors:
- UTI’s are most common among women. The most common region to be infected is the bladder, which is known as cystitis. This infection is caused by E.Coli, which is found throughout the GI tract which can be easily exposed to the urethra.
Treatments and Prevention:
- In order to prevent UTI development, it is essential to drink plenty of fluids. Some fluids such as cranberry juice have been known to be a novel way to prevent UTI’s. It is important to maintain genital hygiene and limit the expose of bacteria from the anus.
- It is also critical to urinate after sexual intercourse to flush out any bacteria that may have come in contact with the urethra.
